Printing
Printing in Excel is very easy. At the simplest level, just press the print button
and call it done. However, here are a few tips to make your print-outs look more
professional and readable.
- Always use File | Print Preview to see whether it makes more sense to
print your sheet portrait or landscape. If you have a wide spreadsheet, use
landscape. If it is a tall spreadsheet, use portrait.
- Use the "fit-to" scaling feature (under File | Page Setup), to force
your spreadsheets to print on one-page. I use this feature for almost every
spreadsheet I print and my settings are almost always as shown below. Remember that
anything you do in the Page Setup dialog only pertains to the worksheet tab you
currently have selected.

- Headers and footers are a good way to consistently and professionally mark
your spreadsheets. Access the controls for headers and footers by going File |
Page Setup and selecting the Header/Footer tab. I usually click the
Custom Header or Custom Footer button and enter my info in the resulting dialog.
