Navigating
  1. Spreadsheets generally start off as a very large empty grid. By default, each column in the spreadsheet is labeled with a letter. Each row is lettered with a number.

  2. The grid is made up of smaller units called cells. Individual cells are referred to by the column they are in and the row they are in. The cell highlighted in the example below is referred to as cell B5, because it is in column B and row 5.

  3. You can enter different types of data in cells... for example, among other things, you can enter: Numbers, Text and Dates. More on this later.

  4. A selection of multiple cells is referred to as a "range" of cells. For example, the range A1:B5 describes a group of ten cells.

  5. You can use your mouse to select individual cells or range of cells.

  6. You can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate from cell to cell.

  7. Pressing Page Up and Page Down on your keyboard will move the view of your spreadsheet up or down by one page.

  8. Pressing Ctrl-Home will take you to the upper left hand corner of your spreadsheet. Pressing Ctrl-End will take you to the lower right hand corner of your spreadsheet.
