Subject: Update from TGW.NET--Sailing & Photography

Hello!

You are getting this email because you expressed an interest in
hearing about updates to our website...

          http://www.tgw.net

Thank you for your interest and positive emails. Updates to the
website have been a little slow due to summer vacation, work,
and watching the various sailing events that are taking place.

And what a great bunch of sailing events they are! The Louis
Vuitton Cup is the "prelim" to the America's cup which takes
place in February 2003. I find watching the Louis Vuitton Cup
(Outdoor Life Network, around 7-9PM Pacific Time) a great way to
fine-tune my couch potato skills by spending an entire evening
watching the tube.

Around Alone (formerly the BOC Challenge) is a single-handed
around the world race. Paying attention to this one is a little
harder as there is little or no television coverage. Find more
information on both events at their websites:

unsubscribe instructions are at the bottom.

EXPLORING ALASKA'S COASTLINE
Exploring Alaska's Coastline is multi-media slide show that
features music, dynamic maps and 60+ images from Yakutat and the
Saint Elias Mountains to Cape Decision. The presentation runs a
quick 3.5 minutes, and requires Macromedia Flash Player version
5/6. Broadband recommended, though not required. Please email
me if you have feedback on this as it is part of a larger
presentation I am putting on for the 2003 Seattle Boat Show.

NAVIGATION SOFTWARE & ELECTRONIC CHARTING
This article is a primer on navigation software and electronic
charting. This is a fairly general article which compliments
the more specific article on Visual Navigation Suite below.
About 2,000 words and five pictures/illustrations. Enjoy!

VISUAL NAVIGATION SUITE AFTER 4000 MILES
One of the first books on cruising I ever bought was Hal Roth's,
After 50,000 Miles. Unfortunately I don't remember many of Hal's
recommendations, but for some reason the title has always stuck
in my mind. In this article you will find some of my thoughts
on Nobeltec's Visual Navigation Suite (VNS) charting program
after logging a measly 4000 miles.

COOL SITES
==================================================================

Here are some sites we thought you might find interesting:
Vivid Light Photography
Vivid Light Photography is a online photo magazine that is updated
once a month. The site boasts over 500 articles. I have read many
of the articles and they are excellent. The magazine seems to be
primarily focused on digital photography, but also features
topics that pertain to film based photography like lens reviews,
articles on lighting, location articles, etc. At first I found
locating old articles confusing. However, the solution is
pressing the 'Back Issues' button/link near the top of their
main page.

NOAA Historical Charts
Many of you are probably familiar with the Office of Coast
Survey's home page ('chartmaker'). I recently found a great
section of their site that allows one to download high-res
copies of historical maps and charts. Of particular interest to
me were the maps and charts created by George Vancouver in the
18th century. If you are interested, go to the above URL and
type 'George Vancouver' in the ENTER KEYWORD(S) field. Pretty
cool.
